The nation’s oil and gas rig count saw a notable increase this past week, with the U.S. rig count rising by 7 to reach a total of 549 rigs.

"Nationally, the gain of 7 rigs included an increase of oil rigs by 6 to 424 while the number of gas rigs declined by one to 117. The miscellaneous rig count grew by 2 to 8 while the offshore rig count gained one to reach 14."

Despite the recent uptick, the current rig count remains 38 lower than the 587 rigs reported a year ago. This year-over-year change reflects 60 fewer oil rigs, offset by 18 more gas rigs and 4 additional miscellaneous rigs.
