Shell has made its final investment decision on the $2 billion HI field gas project offshore Nigeria. The project is expected to finish before the end of the decade supplying 350 MMscf/D at its peak to support Nigeria's liquified natural gas (LNG) exports.
"According to Shell, the HI field holds an estimated recoverable resource of about 285 million BOE. The field was discovered in 1985 and lies in a water depth of about 100 m and is around 50 km off Nigeria’s coast."
The project consists of a wellhead platform with four wells and a pipeline transporting multiphase gas to onshore facilities. The gas will be delivered to Nigeria LNG (NLNG) as part of an expansion project at the Bonny island terminal where a new gas processing plant is planned to be constructed.
The project aligns with Shell’s strategy to expand its LNG capacity by 4–5% annually through 2030 and to reach a combined peak production of 1 million BOE/D from its new projects by the end of the decade.
